Maraming Salamat Dolphy

The comedy King of the Philippines, Dolphy dies at 83. I will always remember him as "Kevin Cosme" in Home Along da Riles. A loving father to his children, a man with principle and a friend to all.

AlotofDon is in A LOT of TROUBLE!

Don Allado, Center of the Barako Bull Energy, took to twitter his frustrations over their 99-93 defeat against the Powerade Tigers. He blasted the PBA via twitter that the league has "little credibility left."

Here are some of the things mentioned in his twitter account:
"I’m the guy that says what others can’t.#PBA games are fixed. They control who is in & who is out. It’s a disgrace to be in this league."

"I am bitter about losing. Not to Powerade, but to #PBA . In my opinion, this leaguehas little credibility left."

This came to the attention of PBA Commissioner Chito Salud, held a press conference and stated that Allados accusations were baseless and Unfounded.

"I just want to stress to the fans, these accusations saying that the PBA is rigged, the PBA is fixed, that we control who goes to the semis and to the finals and who becomes the eventual champion... baseless," he said. "Unfounded. And certainly could only come from someone who has lost his mind and is clearly a sore loser."

The Commissioner was clearly disappointed with Allado's accusations, stating that he, Allado, not only hurt the League but the referees, players and all the people who have protected the PBA's reputation. Salud called him a "sore loser" and said that Allado's rant in Twitter was unacceptable and was very "unsportmanlike".

Salud mentioned that there will be sanctions implemented regarding Allado's actions. But the League will have to hear Allado's side first to allow due process.

At the moment, Don Allado has apologized for the comments he made in twitter.

“I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Comm Salud & entire PBA for last night’s tweets that’s now a subject of controversy,”
“It was an error in judgement on my part to let my passion for this game get the best of me. As a professional I should’ve known better. I understand my statement may be construed by many as discrediting the PBA. Let it be known, however, that such is not my intention. Again, my sincerest apologies to the Comm Salud, Board of Governors & entire PBA.”

My Take: NEVER make decisions when your MAD! and second NEVER bite the hands that feed you.
Don Allado should have been more prudent and acted more maturely. If he had issues with the way their match ended, he should have done a formal complaint instead of airing it out on twitter for the world to see. It was classless and very rude.
Whatever happens to this issue, I hope the PBA will handle it properly and learn from it.

Ciao!!

Philippines U22 Loses to Taiwan U22

by: Shanks608

The Philippines U22 ended its AFC Championship Qualifiers with yet another loss. The squad has lost all its games making it ineligible to participate in the AFC U22 Asian Cup. Despite the loss, the squad had its best showing in the tournament so far limiting its opponent to only (2) two goals and scoring (1) one unlike the other previous matches which were all blowouts.

Taiwan scored in the 11th & 31st minute (penalty). While the Philippines scored in the 35th minute.

The Philippine squad held Taiwan scoreless in the entire second half. Although Taiwan made a goal in the 68th minute it was deemed error and was disallowed.

Another Heartbreak?

AFC U22 Asian Cup Qualifier

by: Shanks608

The Philippines U-22 squad will have its last match later this afternoon against Taiwan for the AFC U22 Asian Cup Qualifier. Unlike the Senior squad, which boasts of many foreign based players, playing in different leagues abroad, this young U22 squad is mostly made up of collegiate standouts from different schools in the Philippines. One notable player is Jinggoy Valmayor who plays for UP Diliman and is a standout player in the UAAP. Another is Paolo Pascual who is the goal keeper for the recent UFL League champions Global FC and Jeremy Thauer who plays for Nomads FC also in the UFL.
This squad also has its foreign reinforcements namely Jacques Van de Bossche, Jeff Christiaens & Angelo Verheye Marasigan who are from Belgium, OJ Porteria from USA and the Angeles twins Marvin & Marwin who are from Italy. Most of these players are holdovers from the SEA games roster. Some players like Mark Hartmann & Joshua Beloya who are still eligible have not been called up due to some issues. (I have no idea why..)

Unlike the senior squad who is making waves in football, this young squad shows the current status of football in the grassroots level in the Philippines. It's sad to say but we are still far behind from our Asian neighbors. The squad have been, let's say, the "whipping boys" in this tournament. Their first match was a (5-1) defeat against Myanmar, second was a (7-0) loss against Malaysia, third a blowout (9-0) against Vietnam and a whopping (10-0) defeat against South Korea.

Our players showed heart! but they were just over matched. A lot have been blaming the coaches, some the players, but what can we do? we've already suffered defeat, what's done is done.

The recent rise of the Azkals to fame, specially the senior squad have overlooked the development of our other teams. They focus more on the senior squad which obviously gives them the moolah!
The PFF is too busy planning for the Seniors' friendlies but they can't even provide a decent coach for the younger squads and a decent training camp. The PFF should also give focus to our younger squads because they are the future of Philippine football. The senior team can't play forever.

Well, Goodluck for our U22 team today. I'm not expecting a win anymore but I hope they keep the goal difference to a minimal..

Ciao!

Euro 2012 Hangover

European Champions once again: SPAIN

by: Shanks608

With the recent end to Europe's most prestigious football tournament Spain are once again crowned Champions! Having won the title two times in a row now, plus a recent World Cup win there have been talks that the current Spanish team is the best ever.

Spain and Italy went head to head last Sunday for the Finals of Euro2012. Most people were expecting a tight match since their first meeting in the Group stages ended up in a 1-1 draw. Spain went through the finals via penalty shoot out against Portugal. While Italy defeated Germany 2-1 in a match they dominated.

Spain has been criticized recently by a lot of fans as "boring", for playing a passing game and losing the ability to excite with their attacking game. But they just proved everyone wrong when they drubbed Italy 4-0 with a magnificent display of ball control and precision passes.
Italy just had no answer to Spain's attacks. The opening goal came from a beautiful header by David Silva. Andres Iniesta created the play by passing the ball to an overlapping Cesc Fabregas, chipped it over to Silva in the near post, and headed it past Buffon for the opening goal. Italy almost immediately made a comeback with a free-kick from Andrea Pirlo but was just deflected.
Italy's defender, Giorgio Chiellini, couldn't have had the worst time for injury when at 21 minutes he was subbed out unable to continue with Balzaretti coming in. Things went to worse for Italy when Jordi Alba created a strong run and an incisive breakaway creating a goal. Spain now up by 2 in the first half.
Italy made some decent attempts for goal but Iker Casillas was just up to the task.

Italy started the second half strong with a few changes, Di Natale coming in for Cassano. He immediately made an impact and almost scored a goal. Motta subbed in for Montolivo but things couldn't get worse as he somewhat pulled a hamstring just three minutes into the game unable to continue. Italy now was playing with 10 men and with Spain just dominating possession it started to become a no contest.
Fernando Torres subbed in for Cesc Fabregas around the 75th minute. With a few minutes remaining til full time, Torres latched on to a perfectly executed through ball by Xavi and with no mistake created a goal (3-0). Torres now becomes the first player to score twice in a Euro final. Just when everyone thought it was all over, Juan Mata who came in for Andres Iniesta scored a goal off the bench from an unselfish play by Fernando Torres. The look on the Italian players were just overwhelmed and exhausted.
Full time score 4-0 the biggest scoreline in a Euro Finals.

Spain played an excellent possession game. They were patient with their attacks and were deserving to win the finals. Italy on the other hand couldn't have been unluckier. IMO, had there not been any injuries we could have seen a better, maybe more exciting match up. Italy's showing in the recently concluded Euro2012 can pretty much help the status of their League which has been recently dealt with match fixing scandals. Overall I think it was a good Euro2012. There were upsets, favorites not going through, groupings which were branded to be boring but proved to be more exciting and of course the management handled well the racism issues. With that I give my thumbs up to the organizers!

Next up WORLD CUP 2014 Brazil! Will Spain still continue to dominate??  We'll find out!

First Day Funk!

It's almost 1 AM in my part of the continent and I have got nothing else to do. As always, I have been scanning through twitter & reading some posts of my favorite bloggers. I happened to have read some articles about the recent Tatt Awards, a prestigious award giving body here in the Philippines for online bloggers. This gave me an idea to try one too. Nothing wrong with it right? I'm still thinking though what my blog would be about. Lol! I guess this is all for now. I think it's better to sleep it off at the moment. Lol! Procrastination at its best! hahaha. Ciao!
